What is www.freebandy.com? It is a web site dedicated to the spontaneous sport known as FreeBandy. The site is the official home page for FreeBandy and was created by the sport’s founders and is intended to spread interest for, and knowledge of, a sport that allows having fun with a simple stick and ball.
Visitors to the site can read about the sport, get tips and advice on play technique, get the latest news about upcoming events and other essential info regarding the sport of FreeBandy. Visitors can also contribute to the site with comments, ask questions and upload their own images and video material. In order to upload material to the site, or to download team presentations or instructional videos, users must first register as a member, or as we call it, a “FreeBandy-Fan”.
Why do we ask for information like name, address, e-mail and birth date on our application?
FreeBandy.com is a site that invites interactivity, in other words we urge our members to comment on the material on the site and to contribute with their own material in the form of comments, images and video clips. To the greatest extent possible the site will be kept free from harassment, obscene language, racism or other forms of inappropriate behavior or inappropriate uploaded material, we need this information in order to censor, or in the worst case scenario, to block membership privileges.
Those of us behind FreeBandy value freedom in all its forms, but we realize that not everyone always shows the same respect for a forum such as ours. We do not want anonymous visitors uploading inappropriate material for our other members or groups of people. It is our experience that the risk of this is reduced if such activities can be attributed to certain members.
In addition, we maintain the administrative function on the site, which means that any material uploaded by our members is first screened by our webmaster before it is published on the site.
We also sometimes organize contests on the site and we need current e-mail and telephone information so that we can notify the winners.
Members can also subscribe to our newsletter and receive information and special offers before “regular” visitors to the site. Since we send the newsletter via e-mail, we need a valid e-mail address so that the system functions properly.
Is freebandy.com a safe place to be?
The answer to that question is a resounding YES!
None of the information we receive from our members will be given to other parties by us or by the site. Only the administrators of the site have access to that personal information.
Why do we use so much English on the site?
FreeBandy is a Swedish concept, a Swedish sport from the outset. But interest in our spontaneous sport has quickly spread to other countries in Europe and even in Japan. In order to reduce the number of language versions we have chosen to focus on two from the beginning – English and Swedish. Certain expressions in the sport are English and we use English menus to make the pages easy to navigate for as many nationalities as possible.
Does it cost anything to use the services at freebandy.com?
No, it is entirely free of charge for the members of freebandy.com
Your responsibility as parents
Just like in real life you as parents have responsibility for your children’s upbringing, which includes their activities on the Internet. If you are uncertain of what your child is really doing when they sit in front of the computer, you should spend a little time and discover the pages that they are visiting. It is our hope that you as parents will appreciate freebandy.com and the values that we try to convey through the sport – respect for others, fun ways to socialize, spontaneous sports before elite thinking, that sports and physical fitness is a good path to self development. If you feel that your child spends too much time in front of the computer and does not get enough exercise, it is time to turn off the computer for awhile. We are the first to comment about the importance of exercising and socializing among friends in a physically natural way, these are the things we promote on our site.
On the Internet the same rules apply as in real life:
You should be careful what you say on the Internet and to who and how you say things, this is no different than in real life.
You do not give out your name, telephone number, address or other personal information to someone you have just met on the Internet, or display it in such a way that anyone can see it.
